About Us : Ella Bodi …Beautiful British Handmade Lingerie

Ella Bodi began life with a bold idea, a television camera and a mission to bring British made lingerie back to life.

In 2011, we joined forces with retail powerhouse Mary Portas for her Channel 4 documentary Mary’s Bottom Line. With more than 30 years in fashion & retail, Mary wanted to prove something close to her heart, that Great Britain could still make exquisite lingerie, combining timeless styling, ultimate comfort & unmissable glamour.

Behind the scenes Ella Bodi carried more than 90 years of specialist knowledge in lingerie & sleepwear design & production. Our brand is the modern face of Headen & Quarmby Limited, the historic factory founded by Mary Headen & Eric Quarmby back in 1935.

Partnering with Mary wasn’t just about making lingerie, it was about showing the world that British craftsmanship was still alive & thriving, creating jobs, building skills, supporting local communities and making products more sustainably.

Every piece we create is still lovingly designed & handcrafted in the United Kingdom to exacting standards by our talented team. It’s our mission to shine a light back on Great British manufacturing, once the pride of the world’s clothing production.

While many factories moved overseas under market pressures for cheaper & cheaper clothing, Headen & Quarmby stayed true to its roots and has always remained a British manufacturing company.

From the iconic ‘Kinky Knicker’ range developed with Mary Portas to the beautiful Ella Bodi collection, we continue to design & make lingerie that feels as good as it looks …beautifully British, endlessly comfortable & always a little glamorous.
